The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), established by the United Nations (UN), are a collection of 17 integrated objectives to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure global peace and prosperity by 2030. These goals are interconnected in that they recognise that the impact or action in one area will affect outcomes in others, in order to balance social, economic, and environmental sustainability development.

The SDG Finance Geneva Summit (SGSGeneva) is annually hosted by the UNDP, which works in 170 countries and territories to develop strong policies, skills, partnerships and institutions to ensure progress on the aforementioned objectives.

The event identifies - through a highly competitive process - up to 12 innovative entrepreneurs (the top 5% of the 240 nominations for the 2021 event) from emerging markets across the globe. SGSGeneva recognises Post Series A impact ventures providing products and services in three categories: Access to Quality Health, Affordable and Clean Energy, and Reducing and Recovering Waste.

Nominees accepted offer solutions to reduce inequalities and empower people at the bottom of the pyramid. The criteria for eligibility included ventures being nominated only by third parties, and with headquarters and primary workforce in developing countries with the potential to drive both large impact and yield sustainable profit.

The SGSGeneva is an invitation-only, closed-door event with high-level decision-makers as guests, such as entrepreneurs, governments, international organisations, mainstream and impact finance, and large private sector companies with a focus on addressing the SDGs.

Out of the 12 finalists selected by the UNDP, with its partners EPFL, Orange, and SAP, Vula Mobile was recognised as one of the top four in the Access to Quality Health category. This category represents the third SDG, namely Good Health and Well-Being.

Some of the Goal Targets:

  • Strengthen the capacity of all counts, in particular developing countries, for early warning, risk reduction and management of national and global health risks.

  • Achieve universal health coverage, including financial risk protection, access to quality essential healthcare services and access to safe, effective, quality and affordable essential medicines and vaccines for all

The Vula Mobile App is the first solution of its kind in South Africa connecting frontline healthcare workers in public and rural health care facilities directly with medical specialists.

The “E-Referral App and Online System” is used by Health professionals to connect and chat securely, and patients get specialist-guided healthcare at their local facility. Vula Mobile aims to contribute to the targets of the third SDG as set out by the UN.

Vula Mobile is honoured not only to be nominated but to be recognised as a finalist by the SGSGeneva.

RSVP to attend a virtual pitching event along with Vula Mobile and the other finalists on 03 June 2021. Vula Mobile is excited to be invited to the SDG Finance Geneva Summit, during the Building Bridges Week in November 2021, to showcase their impact.
