Vula Mobile to support Gift of the Givers crowdfunding campaign to aid medical staff on the frontline of COVID-19
In the face of the COVID-19 pandemic, Gift of the Givers has issued a call to action to all South African citizens and companies to come together and support the medical staff and facilities on the frontline, who will be treating those affected by the virus.
A campaign to raise funds and support the doctors, nurses and medical staff that work in the ICUs and high care units across medical facilities in South Africa has been launched on the local crowdfunding platform, BackaBuddy.
To support the campaign Vula Mobile has come onboard to help identify areas in need of additional resources.
“The aim of the campaign is to support high risk medical professionals in the front line dealing with infected patients… through protective equipment, ventilators and other essential supplies in the quest to preserve life.” says Imtiaz Sooliman, Founder of Gift of the Givers.
By keeping in close communication with our network of over 11,000 health professionals, Vula will gather information to monitor these resources, possible shortages and identify where help is needed.
“The national government and the department of health have shown great leadership regarding the coronavirus. The Vula team looks forward to playing a part in the national effort as the public and private sectors work together.” says Dr William Mapham, Founder of Vula Mobile.
We are also reaching out to our network to encourage sharing this campaign with their wider communities and the South African public.
Within the first two days the campaign has already raised close to R50 000.00 with messages of support for medical staff coming in from individuals and on behalf of families.
Funds raised through the campaign will be used for:
Manual and automated Ventilation equipment
Intubation equipment
Safety equipment for medical staff
Medical supplies
“Preparing in advance to support overburdened government health facilities is a reasonable approach in the interests of all South Africans. Hence the funds raised will be allocated as mentioned, and if we can escape unscathed, then they will still be directed to upgrading emergency services.” added Sooliman.
